Last month, the Engineering Industries Association, with sponsorship from UK Trade and Investment, led a contingent of 20 UK manufacturing exhibitors to the Metalex exhibition in Bangkok.

His Excellency David Fall, British Ambassador to Thailand, visited the show and gave the opening remarks at the UK Innovation Seminar, which was hosted by the EIA together with the British Embassy in Bangkok and attracted 100 delegates.

As many of the world's leading car manufacturers are opening new plants or expanding in Thailand, there has never been a better time for UK companies to enter the market.

Gerry Pulford of the 600 Group (a first time exhibitor to the show) reported that two CNC lathes were bought at the show and large sales were also made by Bridgeport Machines which sold three vertical machining centres.

All companies advised that the exhibition had also attracted distributors from all over the region and had received many enquiries.

Most companies would be returning to the exhibition for 2004.

South Yorkshire International Trade Centre also escorted a group of 15 UK companies to the market to coincide with the exhibition.

The Engineering Industries Association has received funding from UK Trade and Investment for UK companies to attend a full programme of worldwide engineering exhibitions and missions in 2004.
