Show and conference to cover traceability
Tracabilite 2005 will be held from 25 to 27 January 2005 at CNIT Paris La Defense, covering all aspects of traceability for every market sector.
Trade globalisation, combined with the enlargement of Europe, makes questions of quality and safety in industry and society at large more essential than ever.
To meet these new challenges, Tracabilite 2005 is said to be the only international, annual event that can help businesses in the setting up of the traceability systems now required by European standards and desired by consumers.
The event will be held from 25 to 27 January 2005 at CNIT Paris La Defense.
Defined in 1987 by standard NE EN ISO 8402, traceability is the "ability to trace the history, application or location of any entity by means of recorded identification".
Today traceability is more topical than ever, through regulations, strategy, tools and advertising.
It concerns all economic sectors, from food and manufacturing to trade, distribution, and the health sector, among others.
To meet the challenges that European businesses have to handle (for example, the European Union regulation 178/2002 on food safety), Tracabilite 2005 will offer participants three forums in Paris, over three days devoted solely to the complex issue of traceability in all its various aspects.
The first of these is the show.
Entirely dedicated to providers of traceability solutions and based on the transfer of technology between sectors (between manufacturing and the food sector, for instance), the show covers the entire traceability chain - from consultancy services, audits, management and production data processing systems to identification, analysis, and so on.
More than 100 exhibitors are expected to attend.
Two main themes for the 2005 event are as follows: RFID or intelligent labels: a key feature of the show and the conference, RFID will be on show in the form of a 'village' of about a dozen exhibitors; consultancy and engineering will be featured in the programme of the 2005 show.
Consultancy and engineering were repeatedly requested by participants at the 2004 show, with 12 per cent of visitors polled questioning the absence of a section devoted to consultancy services for helping businesses set up traceability systems.
The creation of a Consultancy Module reserved for consultancy firms providing services in organisation, strategy, communication, legal aspects, etc means that visitors can talk to specialists and prepare their overall traceability projects.
In addition to the show, news about traceability will be covered by some 40 talks held at the congress, with 110 speakers scheduled to take part.
Defined by a technical committees including PERIFEM, GENCOD, experts and specialised journalists, the lectures at the congress will, one by one, address the priority issues of traceability for 2005, ie safety, quality, consumer expectations, counterfeiting and shrinkage, regulations, organisation and communication strategy, ethics and social clauses, and finally tools and technologies.
These issues will be discussed for three days and illustrated by concrete examples in a variety of sectors: the food industry, supermarket chains, the aeronautics industry, the car industry, and health.
Each discussion will cover the entire issue thanks to contributions from specialists (public authorities, consultancy firms, legal experts, professional associations, etc), as well as on the basis of users' experiences and solutions presented by vendors.
The directory that accompanies the show and congress provides a panorama of the solutions available for the collection, analysis and processing of information.
The traceability directory is claimed to be the only professional tool to list all the products and services available in the sector, covering more than 350 companies.
At Tracabilite 2005, visitors will find and obtain not only a better knowledge of the market and records of all the solutions currently available, but they will also gain an opportunity to find partners and service providers for future traceability projects.
At Tracabilite 2004 there were 90 exhibitors, 4366 professional visitors and 586 congress participants from sectors as varied as distribution, the food industry, health, and manufacturing.
This made the 2004 event - which was in its very first year of existence - a definite success.
Traceability concerns 'control, quality and security' departments (15 per cent of visitors), for obvious reasons linked to the monitoring of product and process quality; research and development came second with 12 per cent, followed by data processing and information systems (13 per cent), and then transport and logistics (10 per cent).
