Manufacturer surprised by welding
capabilities
Mitchell Dryers has been impressed by the extreme versatility of the AristoMig U400 universal welding set that it purchased recently.
Mitchell Dryers manufactures dryers and mixers for the process industries and has used Esab welding equipment for many years due to the good performance of the equipment, its reliability and the service and support from Esab Nonetheless, even Mitchell Dryers has been impressed by the extreme versatility of the AristoMig U400 universal welding set that it purchased recently

Power sources boost tube weld quality
Orbital welding can be carried out more productively and at lower cost by using new additions to the ESAB Aristo range.
Much of the fabrication carried out by Mitchell Dryers uses mild steel, but the AristoMig U400 has also been found to deliver excellent results with inconel and stainless steel (both 304 and 316 grades), and the equipment is regularly employed for hard-facing.
Although capable of arc air gouging, the AristoMig U400 has so far only been used for MIG, TIG and MMA welding.
Pressure vessels, frameworks and small bracketry have all been successfully welded with the new machine, with the smallest sheet being 1.2mm and the largest plate measuring 60mm.

Lightweight welder repairs embedded rails
Welding equipment for the repair of embedded grooved city tramway rails uses the FCAW process with self-shielded wire instead of the conventional SAW process.
At a 35% duty cycle the AristoMig U400 delivers 400A at 34V.
These machines benefit from an Alutech extruded aluminium chassis that helps to save weight, and the sophisticated but proven IGBT inverter technology ensures that performance and reliability are excellent.
A further contributory factor behind the high reliability is the use of a CAN-bus communications and control system that reduces cabling.
Mitchell Dryers selected the optional MA6 control panel, the main advantages of which are that it is pre-programmed with synergic lines, plus it can store up to 10 sets of weld parameters.
This is ideal, as it makes set-ups and changeovers as quick as possible for the various materials that are welded.
It also helps to ensure consistently high quality welds from all welding operatives, including those with less experience.
Apart from an initial demonstration when the equipment was delivered by Esab, it has proved so easy to use that no further training has been required.
Ian Ramsey, Works Manager at Mitchell Dryers, comments: "This machine has proved very popular with all of our welders".
"It is truly user-friendly and we never cease to be surprised at its capabilities; whatever we use it for, it copes admirably".
"Mitchell Dryers has used Esab equipment for a long time now and we have always been pleased with it".
"We therefore chose to replace an older machine with the latest model from Esab so as to continue to benefit from Esab's quality, reliability and support, as well as to keep spares stockholding simple".
"But there is no doubt that the AristoMig U400 is an outstanding machine".
For mild steel fabrications, Mitchell Dryers makes extensive use of Esab's OK Tubrod 14.13, a flux-cored wire that is particularly suited to the rapid welding of fillet and butt joints in the flat and horizontal positions.
The arc action is stable at all current levels which provides for an excellent weld appearance with absence of undercut or spatter.
As a result, the amount of weld dressing required is minimal. Request a free brochure from ESAB ...
