Huntsman adds its voice in the 'user' community

An Engineering Equipment and Materials Users (EEMUA) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 22, 2005

Huntsman has confirmed the value it places on EEMUA by converting to full membership.

Huntsman, a global manufacturer and marketer of commodity and differentiated chemicals, together with its European petrochemicals business, has confirmed the value it places on EEMUA by converting to full membership.

Huntsman first joined EEMUA in 2004 under a trial membership scheme and became an active participant in more than six of the EEMUA Technical Committees.

"In its drive to operate facilities to the highest standards of safety and reliability, Huntsman saw a need to be involved in industry-wide sharing and development of good practice," commented Nick Wells, professional engineering manager at the company's Redcar facilities.

"Membership of EEMUA has provided a highly-effective vehicle for achieving this objective.

"Membership of technical committees is already adding value to our activities, through enhanced insight into industry good practice, and allowing us to contribute to further development.

"EEMUA not only allows information sharing, it interprets regulations at a practical level, and drives the development of common quality standards to the benefit of the whole user community.

"EEMUA provides a forum to discuss common technical and operational issues and to share experiences with our colleagues from other operating companies and other industry sectors.

"What draws us together is a shared common interest, as users of engineering equipment and materials, to ensure appropriate standards of quality, safety and operational effectiveness in our major capital assets.

"Suppliers, regulators, inspection bodies and standards organisations can all approach the issues of the day from a slightly different perspective.

"But, ultimately, it is up to those of us who own and operate industrial facilities and other large capital assets to manage them in the most effective way.

"EEMUA provides a means for us, as users of engineering equipment and materials, to make the users' voice heard and to continue to operate our facilities to the best standards".

EEMUA executive director, Clive Tayler, commented: "EEMUA, or The Engineering Equipment and Materials Users' Association to give the full title, has been representing users' interests for more than half a century and yet the association's work has possibly never been so relevant as now.

"Maintaining the right balance of in-house engineering expertise, keeping abreast of the regulatory environment, and operating capital assets efficiently, effectively and in compliance; these are critical issues for owners of capital plant.

"Our Members appreciate the value of the shared user community and the other benefits provided by membership of EEMUA".

EEMUA is a European industry association for process engineering and operating companies, with a mission to increase industrial efficiency, improve quality and performance, and promote reliability, economy and safety in all aspects of the procurement and use of engineering equipment and materials by member companies.

EEMUA also acts as secretariat for ECUI, the European Committee of User Inspectorates.

ECUI promotes the recognition, status, and formal responsibilities and accountabilities of user inspectorates as well as technical inspection organisations that reside within industrial engineering-user companies.

EEMUA's trial membership scheme is being extended in 2005 for selected qualifying companies.
