Fathoms complete particle-recovery programme

A Fathoms product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 28, 2009

Fathoms has completed a radioactive particle-recovery programme in hostile waters at Dounreay off the north coast of Scotland.

The upgraded TROL system can recover radioactive particles that are buried to a depth of 50cm.

Fathoms has upgraded its tracked seabed crawler so that it can detect radioactive particles and recover them from beneath the seabed

All operations are continuously recorded on video, so the depth of recovery is noted and a record is kept.

Fathoms' next generation TROL - a small, tracked seabed crawler - is said to be even more effective and builds on the operational successes of the original system.

TROL can be adapted to undertake a variety of tasks on the seabed, such as monitoring, sampling and recovery.
