Electronic cataloguing has become a very useful tool for Transco.
It enables our authorised users to easily understand which supplier they should be using for each defined product group, ensuring that needs are fully met while ensuring contractual compliance to the contracts we manage".
Externally hosted by Premier Farnell, the catalogue is accessible only by pre-authorised Transco users, which aids purchasing control.
In addition it is linked with Transco's SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, allowing the capture of spend information for reporting across the organisation whilst the contract agreement itself also secures clearly defined product pricing.
In addition, the actual catalogue content is controlled by Transco to avoid conflict with other supplier contracts that are managed.
Robert Knight, Group eCommerce Manager at Premier Farnell, explains: "If one of our customers specifies that it will only purchase adhesive from one supplier, then our system must only display products from that supplier to that customer.
Our customers each have very different requirements and we must be flexible enough to meet all their needs".
Premier Farnell, together with Reqio, the leading dedicated product content management company, delivered the online customised punch-out catalogue.
Capable of seamlessly integrating with e-procurement systems, through XML based protocols (a set of formal rules describing how to transmit data), the punch-out catalogue brings a number of benefits to Transco through the flexibility it possesses to integrate with other systems and technologies.
Benefits for Premier Farnell are achieved through the exclusivity in product supply plus the fact that electronic ordering goes direct to its warehouse system, removing the need for its staff to spend time rekeying the orders.
