The Fieldbus Foundation has established a marketing committee in India.

The Fieldbus Foundation has established a marketing committee in India The new Fieldbus Foundation Marketing Committee (FFMC) - India conducted its kick-off meeting on 19th March 2004, at which time it elected a pro-tem committee and planned for future activities

The purpose of the FFMC-India is to promote the adoption of Foundation fieldbus technology within Indiaûs expanding industrial community, which includes many of the world's largest corporations involved in oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical and other process-related fields.

Like other regional Fieldbus Foundation marketing committees around the world, the FFMC-India will develop communication and educational initiatives intended to inform controls and instrumentation end users, system integrators and other interested parties about the use of Foundation fieldbus in industrial automation applications.

According to Fieldbus Foundation President and CEO Richard Timoney, the Fieldbus Foundation Marketing Committee - India was formed in response to growing demand driven by regional end users seeking support in the implementation of Foundation fieldbus.

"The Fieldbus Foundation is pleased that suppliers and end users from India and the surrounding region recognise the importance of fieldbus technology to the prosperity of their local industry", said Timoney.

"This organisation consists of representatives of major automation equipment suppliers and end user companies, seeking to increase the knowledge of fieldbus-based control strategies throughout India's manufacturing base".

The FFMC-India conducted its inaugural meeting at the Leela Hotel in Sahar, Mumbai, India.

Special guests included Charles Cheong, President, Fieldbus Foundation Marketing Society-Singapore; and BR Mehta, Vice President, Reliance Industries, India.

As part of the meeting proceedings, the FFMC-India elected officers to its pro-tem committee.

They include: Rakesh Gads, Emerson Process Management, Chairman; R Vanamali, Endress+Hauser, Secretary; and A Dasgupta, Yokogawa, Treasurer.

Proposed member companies in the organisation include: ABB, Chemtrols (Eckhardt), Chino Laxsons (Smar), Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser, Forbes Marshall (Krohne), Fuji Electric, Invensys, Larsen+Turbo (Metso), MTL, Pepperl+Fuchs, Rockwell, Tata Honeywell, Yamatake and Yokogawa.

In addition, the FFMC-India discussed proposed activities to be conducted during 2004.

The organisation, which will seek official registration with the government of India, plans to establish a Foundation fieldbus demonstration module in cooperation with a regional educational institution, and will participate in at least one automation exhibition during the coming year.
