A new one-day certified training course is intended for controls and instrumentation sales professionals needing a general understanding of Foundation fieldbus technology.

The Fieldbus Centre at Lee College, a National Science Foundation (NSF) recognised and funded institution, has introduced a one-day, certified training course intended for controls and instrumentation sales professionals needing a general understanding of Foundation fieldbus technology The first training course of its kind: "Fieldbus for sales professionals" is designed for inside and outside sales representatives, as well as service personnel employed by plant automation equipment suppliers

The class does not require any previous experience with digital control systems.

"Fieldbus for sales professionals" provides an overview of the open, nonproprietary Foundation fieldbus protocol.

Delegates study basic fieldbus-related facts and terminology, and learn how to resolve common technology issues.

Instructors describe the differences between digital control systems and traditional instrumentation, and explain how fieldbus can be cost-effectively integrated into project bid packages.

The course offers a vendor-neutral perspective on key aspects of fieldbus technology, but can be customised to highlight specific supplier solutions or product features.

According to Fieldbus Centre Director Chuck Carter: "Fieldbus for sales professionals helps control system and instrumentation suppliers prepare their staff for selling".

"This course makes it easier for vendors to take advantage of the expanding global market for fieldbus products", said Carter.

"Instead of devoting time and resources to developing their own sales training curriculum, suppliers can enroll their personnel at the Fieldbus centre and receive expert guidance on deploying fieldbus on a wide range of industrial automation projects".

Those attending the "Fieldbus for sales professionals" course will learn how to justify expenditures on fieldbus controls, added Carter, as well as answer customer questions about returns on technology investments.

The new sales professional course is part of the Fieldbus Centre's comprehensive training curriculum covering digital control technology.
