Filter shows limitations of existing fluid system

A Fluid Conditioning Systems product story

When Aarbakke attached a Magnom clear process unit to one of its EDM machines, it took only a couple of minutes before the company's engineers could see contaminant building up on the core.

Aarbakke is one of Norway's leading manufacturers of speciality down-hole equipment for the offshore industry.

The company works in close co-operation with all major oil companies and service companies including Halliburton-Schlumberge-Weatherford.

The factory itself is state of the art, including all new equipment and even orange trees in the main manufacturing area to monitor air quality.

Terje Selbach, owner of Norwegian Magnom distributor Aventi Norge, was unsure of how effective Magnom technology would be for Aarbakke because the company works very exotic materials, including superduplex titanium.

But when Aarbakke attached a Magnom clear process unit to one of its EDM machines, it took only a couple of minutes before the company's engineers could see contaminant building up on the core.

On the back of this success, Aarbakke has placed a Magnom process unit on its centralised fluid cleaning system (on the supposedly "clean" side, with a flow of 117 litre/min), and is now introducing clear process units on to each machine to minimise downtime.

To date, the process unit has cleared more than 100kg of superfine contamination from the clean side of the fluid cleaning system.

The unit is cleaned weekly, when 2-3kg of fine contamination is trapped.

This level of very fine particulate contamination on the clean side of a filtration system that initially cost millions of Norwegian Krone has been quite a surprise to Aarbakke.

Now a trainee has been put in charge of the servicing of the units as part of his general training, and the company has begun quantifying the savings through increased tool and fluid life.
