Enhanced Lower Cost Handling Range

Automation specialist Festo Ltd has announced an extended range of pneumatic handling components that are smaller, easier to configure and offer improved performance.

Automation specialist Festo Ltd has announced an extended range of pneumatic handling components that are smaller, easier to configure and offer improved performance Designed especially for automated handling applications, the HAT (Handling and Assembly Technology) range includes linear and rotary actuators, grippers, mini slides, heavy duty guides and support columns plus stanchions, adapter plates and brackets to enable a wide variety of requirements to be met

The range, featuring machined, dovetailed mounting slots and threaded holes for easy configuration, requires no custom parts to assemble tailored handling solutions.

The linear actuators (HMP) deploy four backlash-free recirculating ball bearing cartridges for exceptional precision and rigidity along the entire stroke length.

Positional end-stop repeatability is accurate to better than 10 microns in all HMP configurations.

The electrical interface, a positional proximity sensor and a self-adjusting hydraulic shock absorber at each end are also integrated within the slender cylinder profile.

A moulded end-cap protects all pneumatic and electrical connections and houses six LEDs to provide operational status information.

Festo's new HMP (Handling Module Pneumatic) linear actuator is 40% more compact than conventional actuator designs.

This is achieved through Festo's advanced concentric construction method, where the drive actuator is freely mounted inside the profile guide shaft.

Similar design philosophies have been applied to other HAT components to deliver greater robustness, precision and more compact profiles throughout the range.

As the key component, the linear actuator is available in up to 23 configurations, including a range of 4 diameters from 16mm to 32mm, and maximum stroke length options from 50mm to 400mm.

Standard features include a clamp unit which can operate at any point along the full stroke length, a failsafe to retract the actuator in the event of air supply failure - an important safety feature, especially in vertically oriented applications.

Linear modules can be configured with other components from Festo's HAT range to create powerful and precise handling systems.

They can operate in conjunction with another linear module as a conventional pick and place solution.

Alternatively, secured to a slide between columns, they can form a robust gantry.

Rotary actuators, grippers or high-precision mini-slides attach to the front mounting plate to complete the movement options.

Oil and acid resistant flexible conduits complement the new HAT range to deliver a comprehensive solution for handling and assembly applications. Request a free brochure from Festo ...
