Festo, marked its first PPMA show attendance and award sponsorship by handing over two prestigious accolades, the Bob Newman Medal and the John Downing Medal

Europe's leading automation company, Festo, marked its first PPMA show attendance and award sponsorship by handing over two prestigious accolades Deputy Managing Director at Festo, Mike Gaffney, made the presentations in person at the PPMA Gala Dinner held in London's Docklands

In the UK Innovation category, the Bob Newman Medal for Innovation went to APV Baker.

For Customer Service, Domino UK Ltd secured the honours, receiving the John Downing Medal for best continued customer service or technical back-up.

At the exhibition itself, Festo was able to demonstrate its own philosophy of bringing innovation and service to its customers by using the show to launch a complementary range of specialised automation solutions for the wet-end food and processing industry.

"It's a complete new family of products including two ranges of clean line and stainless steel actuators, valves, three new tubing options and a complementary range of fittings," claims Steve Land, Food and Packaging Industry Sector specialist at Festo.

Many of the new Festo components have been developed in conjunction with leading manufacturers and processors, most notably the futuristic CDVI (Clean Design Valve Island) developed in partnership with leading fluid packaging corporation Tetra Pak.

The smooth profile CDVI features a durable polypropylene body and anodised aluminium manifold with all stainless steel fixings and chemical-resistant PVC seals.

CDVI has been designed for IP65 and IP67 certification for wash down environments with acid and alkali liquid and foam cleaning agents to a high corrosion resistance class (CRC4).

The design is free from small radii, sharp edges and crevices, making it perfect for hygiene-sensitive environments.

The key to the operational efficiency improvement is that the clean design permits the whole valve terminal block to be mounted directly on a machine, minimising the distance between valve and actuator to reduce pneumatic pipe runs for a better actuator response.

In addition, new special-to-application products included two environment-severity-dependent cylinder solutions: The clean line ISO6431cylinders (type: CDN) are available with integrated sensors for easy wash down.

For the highest levels of corrosion resistance, wash down and hygiene sterilisation, the new high grade stainless steel (type: CRHD) range provides a non-stick surface for minimal product adhesion.

New for the packaging industry, Festo launched a record-breaking fast switching solenoid valve range.

With switching times of only 2ms and a repeatability of better than 0.2ms this range is ideally suited to applications such as sorting and ejection systems, glue dispensers and in-line labellers.

Integrated power control circuitry within the solenoid coil allows very fast switching with reduced heat build-up to ensure an operational life of hundreds of million cycles. Request free introductory details about products from Festo ...
