Boom axis aids cantilever motion
applications

The new Festo DGEA boom axis comprises an ultrarigid extruded alloy body, toothed belt drive, roller bearing guides and a flat drive head design to reduce vibrations.

The new Festo DGEA boom axis comprises an ultrarigid extruded alloy body, toothed belt drive, roller bearing guides and a flat drive head design to reduce vibrations, making it ideal for cantilever motion positioning applications requiring a high dynamic response Available in diameters from 18 to 40mm and lengths from 10mm to 1m, speeds of 2.1m/s can be achieved with payloads up to 50kg

Each axis can be specified with either stepper or servomotors - or without a motor.

The belt also covers the bearing guide way to prevent ingress of dirt.

The efficient drive principle deploys a fixed pinion in the drive head that operates within an omega-shaped path along the stationary toothed belt.

With the motor and slide fixed, the motion is translated to the boom.

By keeping the motor stationary and moving the boom axis the total moving mass is drastically reduced, allowing faster speeds and shorter cycle times.

An additional significant benefit is in the simplification of the cable management system, resolve and motor cables can be heavy and relatively inflexible therefore there are extra savings to be had in weight, cost and cycle times by using the DGEA axis.

DGEA units are specifically designed to be modular and easy to install.

Using only the simplest of tools like an Allen key and screwdriver, they can be rapidly mounted to other Festo drives, guides and frame components.

Instead of the high cost, effort and resource levels normally required to build and document a custom handling system, the Festo DGEA solution allows customers to achieve this quickly and easily from standard catalogue parts - or even to order the final unit direct as a complete assembly.
