Mini Grippers offer Precision Automation
Automation specialist Festo has launched a range of miniature pneumatic grippers with a focus on high levels of precision.
Comprising a ruggedised alloy construction, integral I/O to eliminate separate nodes, and IP65 rating (including the inputs), the three sizes of CPV Direct products are available with DeviceNet, CANopen, Profibus, Interbus and AS-I interfaces built in.
All comply with the Festo Plug and Work specification.
CPV Direct is a highly competitive range extension from the market leader offering extended features including unique preventative maintenance and advanced diagnostic facilities.

Ultra-Thin Slide Cylinder introduced
Festo has introduced an ultra-thin slide pneumatic cylinder into its miniature cylinder range.
The former is achieved through integral condition monitoring that tracks power up time and the number of valve actuation cycles.
It also provides constant device status data and the ability to read or reset the instantaneous counter at any time.
Rather than simply citing an entire valve terminal, the CPV Direct diagnostics return clear and unambiguous results at the PLC to individual valve level, eg open circuit, short circuit, undervoltage at valve coils, missing connection, overload of sensor power supply etc.
In addition, service personnel can access this diagnostic data without the need for special software or programming.
With the integration of pneumatics and electronics, the compact and space saving CPV Direct design is matched by low weight, high performance and low cost.
The advantages include the proximity of the fieldbus connection to the pneumatic drive, permitting shorter tubing runs for faster machine cycle times.
CPV Direct units are available with valve terminal slice sizes of 10, 14 and 18mm.
To meet changing market demands, and fuelled by the goal of achieving a 'no compromise service ethic' commitment, Festo GB is realigning its UK business and expanding its Northampton operation to centralise engineering, technology and customer support resources, with a new call centre operation scheduled to go on line in October 2002.
In addition, substantial company-wide IT investments will deliver a futureproof e-commerce and web trading infrastructure, and capitalise on the new pan-European intelligent integrated logistics network.
The Festo Northampton Technology Centre will become the company's UK headquarters. Request a free brochure from Festo ...
