Mini Grippers offer Precision Automation
Automation specialist Festo has launched a range of miniature pneumatic grippers with a focus on high levels of precision.
Aimed at precise light force applications in industries like electronics, demanding smaller dimensions with higher performance, the new drives feature two piston sizes (diameters 8 and 12mm) in a slim profile that incorporates a guide rail to provide increased functionality.
For ease of installation, DGC rodless cylinders offer a broad array of mounting interfaces and accessories for simple integration with other axes, plus air connection on one or both sides.
The space saving dimensions of the new devices add to their appeal in intricate applications.
Their unique asymmetric design has the coupling slot angled in the profile for improved space utilisation.
Two primary types of guidance are available.
The standard product has an integrated plain, nonrotational, bearing guide.
An up rated KF version features recirculating ball bearing guides for smoother, zero-backlash operation, high torque resistance and precision slow speed characteristics.
All models offer reduced leakage, lower friction and longer stroke lengths: for instance 1.5 and 2.0m strokes for the 8mm and 12mm units respectively.
All are high-speed devices capable of velocities in excess of 1m/s.
DGC miniature rodless cylinders also include a choice of shock absorber options that permit accurate profiling of deceleration.
In addition, each unit can have extra slide carriages to extend the guidance.
Each size is mirrored by a passive guide axis featuring the cylinder profile and slide without a piston for use on the non-driven arm of gantries.
The new units from Festo are an integral part of the company's acclaimed handling range and, as such, adhere to the Festo Plug and Work specification.
As well as improved load, size, accuracy and service life attributes over competitive units, the DGP rodless cylinders also deliver in commercial value, thanks to a 15% lower price point.
As with all Festo automation components, the DGC cylinders are supported by comprehensive software selection modules and 2D and 3D CAD design profiles. Request a free brochure from Festo ...
