Gas analysers used for emission tests at Millbrook
Rosemount Analytical has supplied an Internal Combustion Engine Emissions system for the new Engine Technology Centre recently opened at Millbrook, the Bedford-based vehicle test organisation.
Significant advances in membrane technology and sensor design have extended the life of these sensors in such demanding applications, so making the overall "cost of ownership" very attractive.
The dissolved oxygen sensors, Models Hx 438 and Gx 448, have an innovative double layer membrane system, made from Teflon and stainless steel, which allows high pressure use with a fast response.
Tests have shown the new cell to maintain performance regularly through 30 cycles of steam cleaning, with a typical 50 cycle life.
Previous DO sensors with conventional membranes would only occasionally achieve a 10 cycle life.
The new designs of pH sensor, Hx338/348, feature "Tri-triple" reference technology.
This uses a triple junction sensor, where the first junction itself is made up of three peripheral mini-junctions, to resolve the potential flow sensitivity problem.
The second and third junctions and the electrolyte inhibit the effect of poisoning ions, protecting the reference element and increasing sensor life.
With cell constants suitable for high purity water through to plant water, the Rosemount Analytical Model 403 conductivity sensor is also manufactured from FDA compliant materials, and available with 1.5in or 2in Tri-Clover fittings.
Steam sterilisation can be carried out up to 135°C.
Associated mounting hardware, allowing sensor insertion and retraction without disturbing the process, and an industry specified cable guard system, to protect the connections and avoid cable threading problems, provides a complete solution for fermentation plant, bioreactors, blood processing, beer and starch processing - wherever monitoring is required with steam-in-place or sterilisation procedures.
