Steam extraction made easy

A Filtermist International product story

A stand-alone steam extractor for parts washers does away with the need for large and expensive venting systems.

Filtermist has developed a stand-alone steam extractor for parts washers that does away with the need for large and expensive venting systems.

One company that has already achieved considerable success with this new unit is Tewkesbury-based MecWash, the component washing and drying specialist.

Established in 1993, MecWash now installs FiltermistXcel steam extractors in over 50% of its washing machines.

MecWash Director, Paul Young, explains: "Steam from parts washers has traditionally been vented direct to the atmosphere; an approach that is not usually considered environmentally acceptable and often results in leaking roofs and high maintenance costs".

This total solution approach also includes a detailed analysis of equipment needs, ongoing monitoring and support and an in-house laboratory that formulates cleaning solutions optimised for individual component and customer requirements.

The compact FiltermistXcel uses the mechanical principle of centrifugal impaction to provide highly efficient extraction of steam at source.

The collected liquid is then returned to the washing machine for re-use.

To assist collection, a T piece and airflow regulator kit is used at the inlet of the unit to introduce ambient air to the extracted steam to quickly reduce the temperature, encouraging rapid coalescence of particles and thereby maintaining efficient mist collection.

Young comments: "The key benefit is that MecWash machines fitted with a Filtermist unit can be quickly and easily repositioned in the factory with no flues to be moved and no requirement for holes to be cut in walls or ceilings".

Supplying small subcontract companies through to large blue-chip manufacturers, MecWash always aims to provide a comprehensive solution to parts washing and drying.

In addition to the Filtermist units, a wide choice of handling and ancillary equipment is supplied to ensure its renowned rotational washing systems will integrate seamlessly with other production processes.
