Eliminating oil mist in the Sandvik factory at Caldes de Montbui in Barcelona is just one part of an outstanding success story for Filtermist.

In addition to ensuring an extremely clean workshop environment Filtermist oil mist filters are also helping to reduce high temperatures generated in the production process, a key factor in maintaining precision tolerances of the finished product.

Sandvik Espanola Hard Material Division is regarded as a worldwide benchmark in the production of tools for the manufacture of metallic containers.

Supplying manufacturers who produce cans for food, drinks and sprays throughout the world the Sandvik plant has, in three years, taken 25% of this global "can tooling" market.

The Barcelona factory finishes components whose primary phase of production has been contracted out.

This involves approximately 120 high-performance machine tools, all equipped with Filtermist oil mist filters, producing over 50,000 new moulds each year and 20,000 reconditioned units.

In this sector a mould can be reconditioned anything up to four times.

Installed by Disheco, the Filtermist distributor in Spain, the Filtermist units have proved extremely successful at removing oil mist and hence reducing the risk to health and the possibility of fire from unwanted oil deposits.

In addition, returning cleaned air to the workshop at normal temperature minimises the cost of air conditioning whilst machine reliability is also noticeably improved by reducing the likelihood of oil mist deposits on electric contacts.

Whilst the improvements in air quality have been visibly noticeable they are supported by measurement and analysis that shows the air to be well below the maximum limit of 5mg/m3 of oil mist particles.

The success story does not stop there however.

A large number of high-speed CNC machines at the Sandvik plant generate very high temperatures that can compromise the accuracy of electronic control and measuring systems within the machine tool.

Filtermist units generate a flow of air within the machine tool that can lower the internal air temperature by up to 5C, a key factor in maintaining the precision tolerances required in the production of punches and moulds.
