Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 9, 2001

A diverse range of topics from plant safety to advanced control applications and e-business will be presented at a Forum and Training event will be held in the Manchester area from 3-6 April 2001

In response to process industry demands to increase profitability, control quality and constantly reduce the cost of goods sold, a manufacturing and supplier sponsored Forum and Training event will be held in the Manchester area from 3rd to 6th April 2001.

The aim of the Forum will be to bring together professional engineers, plant managers and automation managers to benefit from the experience of their colleagues, industry experts and business leaders.

A diverse range of topics from plant safety to advanced control applications and e-business will be presented.

Working with like-minded colleagues from process industries the delegates will learn new methods and technologies that will bring competitive advantage to their companies.

Seven alternative discussion streams and events will run in parallel allowing attendees to select an individual programme that will meet their own specific needs.

Main sponsors of the event will be the process industries in the NorthWest, plus product and service suppliers like Fisher-Rosemount and Eutech Engineering Services.

Lecturers will be drawn from Universities, industry regulators, business leaders and other relevant experts.

The seven streams and the main topics for discussion are: 1) Plant Management: performance benchmarking, abnormal alarm management, IEC 61508.

2) Automation and Advanced Control: asset management, model predictive control, Fieldbus application 3) E-Business and IT: material tracking, automation life cycle plans, SP95 4) Batch Production: Validation, Pharmaceutical requirements, S88, scheduling, electronic signatures.

5) Capital Projects: accounting, justification, planning, project controls, faster commissioning.

6) Company Showcase: scheduled presentations explaining new technologies 7) Suppliers Exhibition.

A tour of a leading manufacturing site will be scheduled in order to see first hand the application of leading edge technology.

In addition there will be day-long fast track training programmes covering subjects such as "Applying Fieldbus and maximising Fieldbus benefits"; "DCS life cycle planning"; "Plantweb" and "Asset Management for improved profitability".

There will be manufacturer presentations on product developments and new technology.

New product launches include a real time COMAH management system.

The associated exhibition of Asset Management, Process Automation, Instrumentation and Control Systems will feature many of the major manufacturers, consultants and service suppliers in this field.

There will be a fee for attendance at the event to cover costs.

The event is designed to be non profit making in order to maximise accessibility.

There is also a formal dinner on the evening of 4 April, in association with IMC and ISA, with a Guest speaker.

The four star venue for the Forum and Dinner will be the Park Royal Hotel at Runcorn.
