Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 19, 2003

A two-day manufacturing excellence conference in Cork will discuss automation and asset management in the Irish pharmaceutical industry.

Emerson is to host a two-day manufacturing excellence conference in Cork discussing automation and asset management in the Irish pharmaceutical industry An event presenting technology and experience relevant to the pharmaceutical industry in Ireland will be held in Cork on 22nd and 23rd October.

Entitled "Manufacturing excellence Ireland", the conference will focus on batch process automation and asset management.

Sponsored by Emerson Process Management, the two-day event will provide pharmaceutical industry examples of what can be achieved using the intelligent instrumentation and digital or fieldbus communications available within PlantWeb digital plant architecture, and what the future developments will be in this area.

Delegates can choose to attend for one or two days, as appropriate.

The conference starts with some full day "hands-on" training courses, introducing the Emerson DeltaV system, at introductory and advanced levels, and also discussing the AMS asset management software for managing field instrumentation.

Other courses will look at how existing control systems can be developed to access this modern technology, and how to manage the maintenance of FDA compliance across validation documentation.

On the second day, delegates can select from lectures presented in two separate streams.

One stream presents experience from new installations in pharmaceutical plants in Ireland, giving results and experience from such companies as GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

Other speakers, from Novo Nordisk Engineering, DPS Engineering, Pharma Compliance Solutions and Qumas, will discuss project management techniques applicable to plant construction and regulatory compliance.

The second stream has lectures on the future development of Emerson PlantWeb technology and the DeltaV digital automation system, explaining what is being introduced to ensure compatibility with current and future requirements and legislation.

All speakers will have expertise and experience relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.

The two streams allow delegates to tailor this day to suit their requirements, by choosing individual lectures: the coffee and lunch breaks provide an opportunity to exchange views and experience with the lecturers, colleagues from other plants and experts from the suppliers.

It is intended that the event will be useful to a broad spectrum of engineers and managers in the automation and control industry, from operators and technicians through to control system planning engineers, designers and plant managers.

Associated with the conference, there will be an exhibition displaying products and systems from various manufacturers, also chosen for their relevance to these industries in Ireland.

Delegates should register beforehand to reserve places: a full set of the lecture notes and presentation material will be provided.

A modest delegate fee will be charged to cover the event costs.

The venue will be the Great Southern Hotel at Cork Airport, 2 minutes walk from the terminal buildings.
