A new technology is introduced for low liquid flow measurement by Flotech Solutions of Stockport, with the launch of the Brooks "Quantim" Specifically designed for the control of low liquid flows from 10-2000 grams/hour, Quantim is based on the Coriolis principle, and measures liquid mass flow - independent of any temperature, viscosity or density variations of the process fluid

Options for flow measurements
Low-flow liquid and gas flow measurement products get sensing tube for applications monitoring, particularly corrosive liquids and gases, and option for operational pipeline pressures up to 300bar.
Sensor tube design simplifies installation
Thermal mass flow measurement in-line, insertion and multi-point sensors suit duct diameters from 1.3 to 150cm and above.
Major initial applications over the past year of testing and proving have been in the pharmaceutical and semi-conductor industries, where the 0.5% of rate accuracy has made significant process improvements possible.
As with larger Coriolis meters, Quantim measures mass flow directly, and has the multivariable capability to also monitor and transmit fluid density or temperature.
Typically used on 1/8in, 1/4in or 6mm line sizes, the meter has a straight through flow path, which avoids mechanical clogging problems and increases reliability.
The flow controller accepts 0-5V or 4-20mA analogue set point command inputs, and controls mass flow over 1-100% of the model range.
Minimum control pressure drop is 10psi, rising to 20bar maximum across the controller, when throttling flow.
The unit is rated IP65 for use in process plant pipework, and is suitable for temperatures up to 70C and pressures up to 100 bar.
Flotech see the major advantage of Quantim to be that recalibration is not needed when process liquids change, unlike other flow controllers: this makes Quantim versatile, universal - and dependable.
Quantim will be particularly relevant to biotechnology and pharmaceutical process control where the fluid might be affected by temperature changes, such as those that are produced by the thermal mass flow controllers previously used for such flow applications.
Flotech expect that most of the initial applications will be for the integral mass flow controllers, but Quantim has the option of providing analogue flow measurement outputs of mass flow rate, alongside density and temperature readings, into external plant monitoring and control systems.
