Gearmotors selected by on-line configurator

A Siemens Flender product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 5, 2001

Net-CAT is an on-line configurator which, using technical parameters like torque, power rating and speed, selects the optimum drive solution for a requested application.

The realisation of Flender's e-commerce system began with a homepage on the company's website.

Flender had already developed its own FIS CRM software to successfully create a data infrastructure, and the FIS system has recorded the data and interlinks of more than 70,000 Flender customers worldwide.

The next logical step was to put the company's electronic product catalogue on-line, within which customers can search, configure, check and then select their requirements.

The electronic catalogue can be found on the Flender homepage (www.flender.com), under the name of Net-CAT.

Net-CAT is an on-line configurator which, using technical parameters like torque, power rating and speed, selects the optimum drive solution for a requested application.

Geared units such as Cavex, FZG, Planurex and Motox-N geared motors can be configured, as can the company's couplings ranges, including Neupex, Rupex, Arpex and Zapex.

Benefits include the ability to configure entire drive trains, with subsequent generation of CAD drawings in dxf or dwg format, and the ability to connect to the Flender store to immediately order the relevant drive components.

Future plans for the Flender e-commerce system include price and availability checking.

For those with SAP systems, it will become possible in future to exchange electronic data for all shipping documents and invoices, and in time detailed order tracking will be introduced.

For non-SAP solutions (eg XML interface definition) Flender is currently looking into appropriate converters.

As Flender managing director Nick Garthwaite commented: "The benefits of 24-hour access, technical downloads and easy ordering with faster deliveries save time for our customers, wherever they are based.

Our system has been developed to be user-friendly and really opens up some very attractive B2B markets for us.".
