Couplings ready for the ATEX deadline

A Siemens Flender product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 4, 2003

Flender Power Transmission has launched a range of couplings that comply with the ATEX 94/9/EC standard.

Well ahead of the 1st July 2003 deadline for the ATEX Directive setting minimum requirements on equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, Flender Power Transmission has launched a range of couplings that comply with the ATEX 94/9/EC standard.

Flender obtained its certificate of approval back in April 2002, and since then has been supplying the three ATEX-approved coupling types: Neupex flexible jaw type couplings, Arpex torsionally rigid, all-steel couplings, and Rupex flexible pin and buffer couplings.

As Flender's John Whitworth commented, take-up has been fast for Flender ATEX approved couplings on the continent, and he is already receiving many enquiries in the UK as companies complete their risk assessments and realise their responsibilities: "We are already able to provide a fast response to customers needing these types of couplings as we planned well ahead for this directive.

We foresee a considerable increase in demand, which some manufacturers may not be able to immediately fulfil, as they are leaving compliance until the very last minute".
