Conveyor drive maintains alignment

A Siemens Flender product story

Flender's new self-aligning system for conveyor belts claims a new standard for the materials handling industry.

Flender's new self-aligning system for conveyor belts claims a new standard for the materials handling industry.

This trademarked system is based on the well-proven Flender Standard Gear Unit (FSG), a product in use in thousands of customer applications worldwide.

The FSG components are combined in a system specifically designed and optimised for the materials handling industry.

Through the use of standard components for this product, Flender can guarantee fast deliveries and stock spare parts.

Benefits of the system include: quick and easy mounting - no alignment required; simple setup for lowest cost; multiple combinations of drive components with standard parts; minimal maintenance; versatile mounting - the unit can be mounted on either side of the belt; and a flanged motor adapter for combination with any NEMA or IEC motors.

A clever yet inexpensive cooling system incorporates an increased cooling surface with ribbed housing and a high efficiency shaft-driven fan with optimised airflow design.

The cooler operating temperatures also increase the life of the gear unit's lubrication oil, translating into less frequent maintenance intervals and lower operating costs.

To protect against dusty environments, a high efficiency fan with special blade design increases airflow across the housing and reduces dust build-up on the housing surface.

Flender has also included grease purged taconite seals with a design that offers greater reliability against contamination compared with standard seal designs.

The seals incorporate a grease nipple that allows customers to purge contaminated grease regularly.

A noncontacting version is also available.

Flexibility is key to this product's design, meaning that motor assemblies with fluid couplings, flexible couplings and brakes are all feasible with Flender motor lanterns.

All are connected via NEMA or IEC motor standards, and they have been designed to support almost all possible reducer, fluid coupling and motor combinations.

3D modelling CAD systems are available with FEM calculations for advanced shaping of gearbox components.

Power outputs vary from 22 to 630kW, with output speeds of 20 to 145rev/min.
