"Thermal imaging is proving to be an excellent NDT tool for the rapid inspection of large areas - and in particular the inspection of composite parts", according to the NDT Engineering Team Leader at Airbus UK in Filton, Bristol.

The company is responsible for the design and manufacture of Airbus aircraft wings.

The NDT section establishes the inspection procedures and it recently took delivery of a Flir Systems ThermaCAM thermal imaging camera.

The benefits of thermal imaging are well appreciated by Airbus UK which has an investment programme for the development of this method as an everyday nondestructive testing tool.

The purchase of Flir Systems' latest, top-of-the-range uncooled camera is the first phase of this initiative.

"The camera was available ex-stock and met all our purchasing criteria including the need to measure temperature variations of 0.4C", concluded the customer.
