The new ThermaCAM P50F infra-red camera has not only been designed specifically for high temperature industrial furnace applications it also significantly outperforms its competitors.

Its resolution, quality of protection, field of view, resolution and measurement accuracy make this new addition the most effective infra-red camera for inspection through flames.

And as this model contains a European ULIS detector it is not subject to any licensing delays.

Feedback from trials at a petrochemical plant is indeed impressive.

Clarity of image, especially in the lower ranges was highlighted and even compared favourably against Flir Systems' R and D cameras.

The ThermaCAM P50F has specially designed detector and optics for temperatures exceeding 300C; four temperature ranges can be selected up to 1500C.

This model uses an ultra-sensitive 240 x 320 uncooled long wave detector that packs far greater detail into the image than lower performance systems.

Whereas the resolution on its competitors is typically 5C at 400C, the ThermaCAM provides a phenomenal 0.6C, +/-2% accuracy.

"I was able to identify the sharp edges that indicate external tube scaling as opposed to internal coking".

"The flame suppression filter was excellent", commented Rob Raymer, a consultant working in the petrochemical industry who tested the camera on low, medium and high temperature heaters at a refinery.

A further benefit of the ThermaCAM P50F is the quality of its heat shield.

Whereas other cameras run the risk of a damaged detector when it is pointed at a high temperature source the argon coated silicon window on the P50F provides complete protection.

A heat shield is also provided to protect the operator and camera - even when the shield is too hot to touch, the camera lens and body remain cool.

As an extension of the ThermaCAM P Series family of infra-red cameras, the new P50F inherits its wide-ranging measurement and digital recording functions.

Accordingly its RAM board can store up to 30 images a second of real time data as a radiometric sequence or a standard AVI file.

As well as text notes it can store up to 30 seconds of voice comment with each image and includes Bluetooth as standard.

Users can also make notes on a PDA running Pocket Word and then beam them into the camera.

ThermaCAM Quickview reporting software is part of the package enabling simple post processing and reporting to be undertaken.

Naturally this latest ThermaCAM is also compatible with ThermaCAM Reporter for more advanced analysis and report generation.

A remote LCD is provided as standard to optimise operator safety.

In addition to the ThermaCAM P50F, Flir Systems has introduced the P25F.

Fixed spot temperature measurement, optional remote LCD and Flash card JPEG storage are the main features that differentiate this model.

Both versions are ideal for the inspection of all types of fired heaters found in the chemical and petrochemical industries, refineries and power stations.

They can see scale, coke and slag build-up so that remedial action can be taken before the problem becomes a crisis.
