A new hygienic breakaway coupling is designed to prevent damage to installations and injury to personnel when a tanker drives away while the hose remains connected.

Flex-Rite Chemgiene has unveiled a new hygienic breakaway coupling designed to prevent damage to installations and injury to personnel when a tanker drives away while the hose remains connected.

Called the Salamander hygienic breakaway coupling, the product provides a permanent coupling capable of cleaning in place (CIP) and comes with any industry standard hygienic fittings or to customers' own specifications.

A tri-clamp single sealing system is incorporated as standard.

Benefits of the couplings include simple resetting of the connection if a drive away occurs, the elimination of repair or renewal costs and the prevention of injuries.

Use of the new couplings also avoids plant downtime and provides a big safety enhancement.

At the heart of the design is a series of precisely machined waisted connector pins designed to break at a load sufficient to avoid accidental failure during normal handling of a hose, but low enough to prevent damage in a drive away situation.

Salamander can be used with any standard hose ends used in industry and is constructed from 316 stainless steel.

The Salamander is ideal to protect against tanker drive aways in dairies and other bulk industries that use stainless steel hose couplings.

It is unsuitable for chemicals where spillage is disallowed.
