CAT IV safety rating on new digital multimeters
Fluke has introduced the 170 Series Digital Multimeters with lifetime warranties and the latest category IV safety ratings, designed for use up to 1000V and 10A AC or DC
The SM100 checks for missing earth, live-earth reverse, live-neutral reverse, missing neutral or live faults.
Three vivid bicolour LEDs for each check indicate the status of the wiring into the socket.
A simple-to-use chart supplied with the unit indicates faulty wiring.
The SM200 has a similar design but includes a buzzer that changes from a continuous tone to a pulsing sound in the event of a fault being detected.
The SM300 carries out similar checks with a buzzer, but also provides 30mA RCD checking.
A soft-touch button tests that an RCD in the circuit trips within 300ms when a nominal 30mA earth fault current is applied.
A further button, the earth volts touchpad, detects raised earth voltages above 50V AC, thus indicating potentially dangerous installations. Request a free brochure from Fluke (UK) ...
