Safety first for high-current meters

A Fluke (UK) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 20, 2008

Clamp meters feature extra wide jaws (up to 58mm) to easily clamp around large conductors and busbars typically found in high-current applications.

Available now, Fluke 353 and Fluke 355 true-RMS clamp meters are designed for accurate readings up to 2000A in industrial and utility applications, without the need to disconnect equipment.

The rugged design and CAT IV 600V/CAT III 1000V safety ratings offer excellent protection in high voltage applications, enabling the checking of new installations, troubleshooting and the taking of accurate measurements on UPS and variable frequency drives with noisy loads.

The new, handheld Fluke 353 and 355 clamp meters feature extra wide jaws (up to 58mm) to easily clamp around large conductors and busbars typically found in high-current applications.

A special mode button on both models offers accurate peak measurements of inrush currents for motor startups and other inductive loads.

Both models measure up to 2000A DC and 1400A RMS AC.

The Fluke 355 also measures voltage to 1000V DC and 600V RMS AC and resistance to 400kohm, making it a very versatile single tool for industrial and utility technicians and electrical contractors; there is also a continuity beeper.

The Fluke 353 and 355 both feature large backlit displays to give clear visibility in areas of poor lighting, and a display-hold function is provided for readings that cannot be viewed directly.

The clamp meters measure frequency up to 1kHz, feature minimum, maximum and average functions for analysing readings quickly, and have a lowpass filter for more accurate measurements on equipment with high frequency or switching noise.
