Burrup Fertilisers, on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia's Pilbara region has awarded a 12-month maintenance contract to Furmanite Australia
Burrup Fertilisers, on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia's Pilbara region has awarded a 12-month maintenance contract to Furmanite Australia, the technical services company geared to maximising asset uptime, to supply maintenance and repair services to its new AUD $700 million ammonia plant.
Furmanite has secured the contract to provide the maintenance and repair services needed on an on-going basis to ensure that the ammonia plant remains in full-time operation.
The company offers a wide range of services geared to avoiding unscheduled shutdown and keeping assets operating efficiently.
Services provided by Furmanite under this contract include on-line pressure leak sealing, hot tapping and Trevitest (on-line testing of pressure relief valves).
With a production capacity of 760,000 tonnes of liquid ammonia a year, Burrup Fertilisers wants to avoid any unscheduled shutdown or disruption to production at the plant.
Furmanite's range of on-site and on-line services will play a significant role in avoiding this, as well as helping to minimise any scheduled shutdown period.
"We're delighted to have won this contract, which makes full use of many of the broad range of services and expertise we offer", Furmanite Regional Sales Manager David Arnold said.
"Maximising asset uptime is what Furmanite is all about, and by appointing us as a single contractor able to offer a variety of specialised maintenance and repair services on an on-going long-term basis, Burrup Fertilisers gains optimum value".
By establishing a close, long-term relationship with Burrup Fertilisers Furmanite is able to develop a sound knowledge of the site and the company as well as its strategic approach to maintenance via regular presence on-site, resulting in considerable efficiencies and cost-effectiveness in the service it provides.
Moreover, Furmanite becomes able not only to respond to requirements, but to take on an increasingly pro-active role to help Burrup Fertilisers optimise its plant maintenance programme.
Burrup Fertilisers is a private company, majority owned by Pankaj Oswal.
The ammonia plant has been developed over the past four years and represents the largest Indian-based investment in Australia.
The plant uses natural gas as feedstock to produce liquid ammonia, primarily for the production of fertiliser and industrial products.
Total output is piped from the plant to the Port of Dampier for export markets.
Production began in April 2006 and current indications are that the company will achieve its forecasted production levels in the first year of plant operations.
