Finning Power Systems has secured a deal with Carmichael International to provide Cat C18 engines for crash tender vehicles at airports worldwide.
Finning Power Systems, the sole UK distributor of Caterpillar engines, has secured a deal with leading fire-fighting vehicle manufacturer, Carmichael International to provide Cat C18 engines for crash tender vehicles at airports worldwide.
The first Cat powered crash tender is currently providing emergency backup at Exeter airport, with a further 17 C18 engines destined for crash tenders operating as far afield as Botswana, Mauritius, Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi.
Worcester-based, Carmichael International, is the only UK company producing a full range of fire fighting vehicles.
First established in 1859, the company currently employs around 130 people and supplies crash tenders to airports around the globe.
The 18L, straight six-cylinder C18 is certified at 700 horse power and offers all the power and performance associated with Caterpillar engines.
The engine is Euro III compliant, providing cleaner emissions than many of its competitors.
Commenting on the decision to invest in the Cat C18 engine, Nigel Cresswell, Carmichael International, UK Sales Manager said: "With many airports near residential areas, cleaner engine emissions are very important".
"The C18 provides Euro III compliance without sacrificing power and performance".
"A crash tender needs to get to the scene of an incident in less than two minutes and Civil Aviation requirements dictate that that all crash tenders need to have an acceleration speed of 0-80km/h in less than 40 seconds".
"The C18 easily complies with this by doing about 0-80km/h in 28 seconds".

"With Finning's dedicated support network, we are confident that any technical problems can be quickly resolved anywhere in the world", concluded Cresswell.
