M-1iA high-speed robot requires minimal workspace

A Fanuc Robotics (UK) product story

Fanuc Robotics UK has brought out a lightweight and compact, parallel link design robot.

The M-1iA robot is designed for high-speed electronics assembly and picking and packing of light components.

It is available with four- or six-axis options, which weigh only 14 and 17kg respectively.

The parallel link structure allows higher speeds and greater accuracy than conventional Scara type assembly arms.

Handling a payload of 500g, the M-1iA will complete the standard pick and place trial of 25mm up, 200mm linear and 25mm down in 0.3 seconds and with a repeatability of 0.02mm.

The lightweight design and compact size, measuring just 421mm wide by 500mm deep, allows the M-1iA to take up no more space than a human operator working at an assembly conveyor.

The actual work envelope, 280mm diameter, is maintained within the width of the robot body, making guarding requirements straight-forward and unobtrusive to human operators when working alongside.

The robot also provides a potentially portable solution to meeting production requirements as required.

A removable stand ensures that the M-1iA is easily integrated into a machine.

The robot can be mounted at any angle.

This increases the opportunities for multiple robot installations where work envelopes may be required to overlap.

The Fanuc Robotics M-1iA is controlled by the intelligent R-30iA controller, with integrated functions including IRVision, Robot Link and collision protection.

To benefit from IRVision, the robot simply requires a camera and a cable to connect it to the controller - a housing is provided in the robot body to position a camera above the wrist of the M-1iA.
