Foodex @ IFE05 - the new food show in the 2005 exhibitions calendar - is already proving to be a big hit with companies looking to target the food processing, retail and foodservice markets With eight months still to go until the new event opens its doors alongside the established IFE05 at Excel (13th-16th March 2005), the organiser reports that nearly half of the initial available stand space has been booked and over 30 companies are already onboard

Foodex @ IFE05 is a collaboration between Foodex Meatex and IFE organiser, Fresh RM.

Signed earlier this year, the deal sees a comprehensive range of products, packaging and processes brought together for the first time under one roof and provides visitors with a 360 degree perspective of the food and drink industry, from ingredients through to IT, transportation and health and hygiene.

This new event, which is running in the alternate year to Foodex Meatex's existing show in Birmingham, offers an excellent additional platform for companies looking to launch innovations and new products in 2005.

Research carried out by both parties has shown that half of all visitors to IFE in 2003, as well as a quarter of all of the 1400 exhibitors, were keen to see more new processing and packaging innovations.

This coupled with the limited crossover between the two shows - just some 7% of visitors attended both IFE and Foodex Meatex - and also the different geographical reach, means that exhibitors will potentially be talking to a completely new audience.

It is this untapped customer base that has attracted many companies to the show.

Interbake is a Foodex Meatex regular, but is keen to target a wider audience through the London based show, as David Dunne, Sales Director explains: "IFE brings a whole new dimension to Foodex, creating an all encompassing event.

It will enable us to extend our reach from our traditional stronghold in bakery, right across the food processing and food service industry".

This is echoed by Tom Sensier from food thermometer manufacturer TM Electronics, which is returning to Foodex after a four year absence: "We are launching a brand new product, both in concept and design, so the exposure that this show can give us to visitors as well as fellow exhibitors, is fantastic".

Two other seasoned Foodex Meatex exhibitors are also keen to capitalise on these fresh markets.

"Foodex Meatex has always been a successful show for us, but this London addition will enable us to talk to new customers, especially in the South East", said Sandy Taylor, Managing Director of packaging specialist Multivac.

And Stephen Soos, CEO of transport refrigeration company Sigma Cryotec adds: "We gathered many valuable leads and took several orders in Birmingham, but we were very keen to sign up for the 2005 event, especially when we heard it was in London, as this will give us the opportunity to exhibit our products to a wider audience".

Commenting on the industry's reaction so far to this joint venture, Foodex Meatex CEO, Steve Bax said: "We have been very pleased with the feedback we have received from many of our members so far, which on the whole has been favourable.

To have such a good spread of exhibitors at this stage of recruitment is excellent and we are well on track to reach our target figure by the time the doors open next March".
