Soft starters save costs for mechanical engineers
Statistics show that over 90% of the motors in UK industrial use have no form of control, other than simple electromechanical switching.
These IP55 units are designed for external mounting and operation in the range from 6 to 44A.
Fairford's new and improved software for the digital QFE soft starter is designed to make the unit even easier to set up and communicate with.
The QFE is a sophisticated controller that offers the power flexibility and reliability required in the most critical of applications.
An ideal product for OEMs and end users alike, the QFE saves on installation time with an auto setup feature that allows simple selection of the application required from a displayed menu.
The QFE's powerful architecture then does the rest.
The QFE is also benefiting from improved Modbus software, Fairford employed this popular interface due to its wide acceptance in the market, its simplicity in setup and high levels of reliability.
The new capabilities provided by the improved software benefit users through reductions in control components, one QFE keypad being sufficient to control up to ten of the soft starters.
Coinciding with improvements to the QFE soft starters is an extension to Fairford's digital Startmaster range, enabling these units to be used in applications with motor full load currents up to 242A.
At the same time there is a new range of IP55 complete starter systems based on the Startmaster unit, including all ancillary equipment, designed for external mounting and rated for operation in the range from 6 to 44A.
In common with Fairford's QFE controllers, the Startmaster units are designed with a digital architecture that ensures they are easy to use, program and install.
They provide a highly efficient and cost effective replacement star-delta methods of motor starting.
They are particularly effective in applications that start and stop frequently, applying the necessary starting and acceleration torque gently, thereby avoiding the mechanical shocks that can lead to breakdowns and expensive downtime.
