The system will plan and control every aspect of manufacture and will eliminate the need for operator production sheets, saving FTUK approximately GBP 85,000 per year A hand on system with over 750 messages will enable operators to summon for child parts, supervisors, engineering, maintenance and quality directly from their machine minimising production downtime via the factory-wide Tannoy system.
The system also has login ID features for every member of staff, the benefits of the logon system enable production managers to see exactly where any member of staff is in the building and have a record of who produced which component via MS Excel.
The system is totally windows based for integration with MS Excel and Access.
Production is viewed in real time and enables corrective actions to take place more efficiently.
Production reports are produced daily for historical purposes, operator trending, alarm history, weld modifications log etc.
Before the contract was awarded FTUK was given an 11-cell test demonstration by Fern Engineering Systems so it could assess the benefits and cost savings of the custom written software compared with expensive off the shelf Scada packages that still have tailored to a customers needs and will not talk to different types of PLCs on the same system.
