John Nichols, Global Pharmaceutical Technology Director of Foster Wheeler Energy, has been elected to the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering International Board of Directors.

John Nichols, Global Pharmaceutical Technology Director of Foster Wheeler Energy, has been elected to the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering's (ISPE) International Board of Directors.

"I am honoured to be elected to the ISPE Board", said Nichols.

"Like my company, I have been actively involved with ISPE for some years, and I am looking forward to working with my fellow board members to help shape ISPE so that it meets or exceeds the expectations of its 21,000 members".

"This gives me an excellent opportunity to use my particular experience in global knowledge management systems to contribute to the integrated development and sharing of ISPE's body of knowledge".

"I will also be able to pursue my interest in finding better routes to training and education".

"We want ISPE to maintain its position at the forefront of initiatives such as innovation, risk assessment and management, and process automation technology (PAT)".

"I hope to contribute new ideas from my other work in innovative technologies associated with process intensification and green chemistry".

"I will also take an active part in promoting ISPE's global initiatives such as the 'API Community', and 'Facility of the year'".

Nichols is an engineer with more than 30 years' experience in the life sciences industry.

As Foster Wheeler's global pharmaceutical technology director, he is responsible for the company's worldwide pharmaceutical technology development and co-ordination as well as for the provision of consultancy expertise to key projects.

Nichols has been an active supporter of ISPE for many years.

He has presented at numerous ISPE events on the subjects of containment, risk management, and innovation and he has also organised a number of ISPE seminars.

He is a member and past Chairman of the ISPE European Continuing Education Committee and is European Technical Advisor to the Steering Group on the BPC/API Baseline Guide update.

Nichols was voted ISPE's Member of the Year in 2003.

He obtained his BSc in chemical engineering from Imperial College, London, and a Diploma in management from Thames Polytechnic, London.

He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers in the UK.
