Foster Wheeler Energy has been awarded a project engineering services contract by Jubail Chemical Industries Company for its epichlorohydrin and chlor-alkali project in Saudi Arabia.

Foster Wheeler Energy has been awarded a project engineering services (PES) contract by Jubail Chemical Industries Company (JANA) for its epichlorohydrin and chlor-alkali project (known as Project Hassad) to be located in the Secondary Industries Park at Al-Jubail Industrial City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The terms of the award were not disclosed.

The project will be included in the company's first-quarter bookings for 2005.

"Foster Wheeler is delighted to be awarded this contract by JANA", said Steve Davies, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Foster Wheeler Energy .

"This award consolidates our already strong position in the petrochemicals sector in the Kingdom, both with private investors and public companies".

"It reflects the quality and the depth of our technical and project execution expertise".

"We are pleased with our choice of Foster Wheeler", said Alexander Denzler, General Manager of Jubail Chemical Industries Company.

"We have selected Foster Wheeler as the most fitting from a very competitive list of qualified companies".

"Project Hassad will be executed by several contractors located in different parts of the world, and we require a project engineering services contractor that is a global organisation with a proven track record and the ability to integrate with our own team".

"Foster Wheeler meets these requirements".

Foster Wheeler's role as PES contractor covers the co-ordination of the engineering, procurement and construction phases of the project, which is scheduled for completion in 2007.

The new facilities will produce 30,000 tonnes per year epichlorohydrin, 50,000 tonnes per year caustic soda and 45,000 tonnes per year calcium chloride.

Epichlorohydrin is used in the manufacture of epoxy resins, and the new facilities are to be built adjacent to JANA's existing epoxy resin plant.

The caustic soda will be used as feedstock for an existing soda plant operated by Arabian Alkali Company in Al-Jubail, while the calcium chloride will be crystallised into granules and sold mainly in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) member states.
