Foster Wheeler wins contract for engineering, procurement, subcontract activities and field supervision related to the soil remediation of a decommissioned former tank farm in Naples, Italy.

Foster Wheeler Italiana has been awarded a contract by Mercurio for engineering, procurement, subcontract activities and field supervision related to the soil remediation of a decommissioned former tank farm in Naples, Italy.

Mercurio belongs to the Zunino Group, an Italian real estate group.

The terms of the contract were not disclosed and the contract was included in Foster Wheeler's Q3 2005 bookings.

The soil remediation will be undertaken using landfarming, an above-ground soil remediation technology that reduces concentrations of petroleum constituents through biodegradation, while at the same time reducing the risk of possible contamination outside the property limits.

After completion of the remediation work, the former tank farm area will be reused for the construction of a new commercial centre.

"This award is a further confirmation of the expertise that Foster Wheeler Italiana has demonstrated in the successful remediation of the former Rho-Pero refinery, which has become the new permanent home of the Milan Fair," said Andrea Fava, Director of the Environmental Division of Foster Wheeler Italiana.
