Spanish plant upgraded to meet emissions

Contract to supply and install low-NOx burners and to upgrade mill classifiers will let power plant in Spain meet European Union emission regulations.
Foster Wheeler Energia has been awarded a contract by Hidroelectrica del Cantabrico (HC) to supply and install low-NOx burners and to upgrade the mill classifiers on Unit One at HC's Abono power plant in Spain These modifications will permit HC to meet European Union emission regulations

The two boilers at the Abono plant, rated at 360 and 540MW were originally supplied by Foster Wheeler.
They were designed to fire local bituminous coal and blast furnace gas and were commissioned in 1973 and 1985.
In 2005, Foster Wheeler was awarded the contract to upgrade the burners of Unit Two, the newer of the two units.
