Filter helps users meet biodiesel standards

A FA-ST Filtration Analysis Services Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 7, 2007

FA-ST has designed an environmentally friendly filtration unit to help companies meet the industry biodiesel standard EN14214 2004.

With environmental issues in the headlines every day, there is an increasing demand for cleaner burning fuels to help reduce carbon emissions, so the manufacture of biodiesel is growing.

Biodiesel is becoming increasingly available to in the UK and it is being sold as either pure biodiesel or as a blended mixture.

It has to comply to the industry biodiesel standard EN14214 2004.

FA-ST has designed an environmentally friendly filtration unit to help companies meet this standard and to comply with the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) ( England ) Regulations 2001.

The MS4BFS filter rig is designed specifically for final filtering and polishing of the bio-diesel fuel.

The unit is mounted in a robust steel frame, has four filter pots on manifolds complete with filter cartridges, full electrics which include an on/off switch, isolator switch, indicator lights, available with a 110V, 240V or 415V motor, mono pump, pressure relief cut off switch, quick release couplings and suction and return lines.

The complete rig is retained within a strong polyethylene bund, to prevent spillage and ground contamination and is fitted with a safety float switch.

The float switch will turn the rig off in the event of any spillage or leak.

The four- unit rig will process biodiesel at 1200 litres per hour.

The filter rig can also be fitted with heavy duty wheels or can be mounted on any suitable trolley for ease of manoeuvrability.

The filter cartridges will remove particle contaminants to 3 micron absolute and remove free and emulsified water.

Options include pre-filters, two, four or six filter pots and rigs can be built to suit all applications.

An air-driven unit is also available.

Extensive testing of the filtration unit has been carried out by independent biodiesel producers.

As an additional benefit FA-ST can now offer biodiesel analysis to producers of biodiesel.
