Plain bearings with higher load capacity

A FTL Seals Technology product story

The Glycodur range of plain bearings now has a new high load performance PTFE compound called G97 alongside a thermoplastic bearing coating which does not require lubrication

The Glycodur range of plain bearings, available through FTL Seals Technology Ltd in the UK, has taken the market lead both in terms of innovation and the environment.

A new high load performance PTFE compound called G97 has been introduced alongside a thermoplastic bearing coating which does not require lubrication.

G97 has a much higher load capacity than the standard PTFE materials, while maintaining the low friction capabilities.

As a result there is now a wider range of applications in which more lubricated PTFE coated bearings can be used, for example, decoupling pulleys and unbalanced fly wheels for avoiding torsional vibrations.

Thermoplastic materials have previously always required lubrication.

However, the new developments mean these new materials exhibit the higher loading characteristics of thermoplastic materials with the low friction properties of PTFE.

The Glycodur range, which includes plain bushings, flanged bushings, thrust washes and strip material, also leads environmentally, following changes in the production process.

Unlike alternatives, there is no lead used in Glycodur PTFE compounds.

In addition the toxic solvents, used to produce the aqueous mush of PTFE, required to coat the bronze covered steel strip prior to sintering, have been replaced by water based fluids.
