A consortium led by FCX Truflo Marine has secured a major contract to supply actuated and manual valves on the new Type 45 Anti Air Warfare Destroyer.

A consortium led by FCX Truflo Marine has secured a major contract to supply actuated and manual valves on the new Type 45 Anti Air Warfare Destroyer being designed, engineered and built by BAE Systems for the Ministry of Defence.

The consortium, which includes FCX Truflo Marine, FCX Orton, Emerson Process Management, Broady Flow Control and Young and Cunningham, has been selected to supply all valves aboard.

This will mean FCX Truflo Marine will manage a large proportion of third party suppliers as well as manufacturing products directly.

All the ball, butterfly, gate, globe, check and control valves and electric actuators used in the packages will be rigorously tested to ensure they are shock proof for Naval service, and can perform to their maximum ability in even the most trying conditions at sea.

FCX Truflo Marine will be managing the technical compliance, certification and supply of the product during the construction of the vessels, which is expected to last a minimum of six years.

The BAE Systems Prime Contract Office is working with BAE Systems Marine and Vosper Thornycroft on an initial order for three ships of a class of up to 12intended to replace the Royal Navy's Type 42 AAW Destroyers.

The first of class, HMS Daring, will be assembled at the BAE Systems Scotstoun (Glasgow) shipyard and is due to enter service in 2007.

The remaining ships will be assembled at BAE Systems' Barrow shipyard.

Both BAE Systems Marine and Vosper Thornycroft, will be building sections of the ship for the whole class.

Commenting on the new contract success, Managing Director Robert Bowser explained: "FCX Truflo Marine has proved its technical, logistical and commercial proficiency for the complete supply of valves for both submarines and surface ships built for navies across the world.

These have so far included the Landing Platform Dock Replacement (LPD(R)), Auxiliary Oilers (AO), Brunei Offshore Patrol Vessels, Greek Fast Attack Craft and the Astute Class submarines.

We are naturally delighted to have secured this major new project".
