Speed is critical to RPD success

An ability to work to short deadlines was a critical element in the decision made by Euroclone to appoint rapid product development (RPD) expert Fitstogether for the successful development and introduction of new laboratory products Fitstogether was first approached by design consultancy Zisys who had undertaken initial product development work on behalf of Euroclone and required prototyping and low volume manufacturing support

Single-source solution speeds cradle to market
Digital communications company Sepura has developed an innovative product for the public safety market with the help of rapid product development expert Fitstogether.
Adding speed to rapid product development
Robin Mackie, Managing Director of Fitstogether, looks at the challenges facing those involved in new product design and development.
Working in partnership, Fitstogether responded with the rapid development of prototype parts in final specification polymer.
Prototypes of two product variants were made very quickly in the form of a "lab pistol" and an "inline" product or pipette for environmental laboratory analysis.
To meet initial production requirements to provide parts in different colours for market testing, a rapid cut injection mould tool was developed by Omega Plastics, Fitstogether's tooling and low volume manufacturing arm.
Low volume commercial production and market distribution of both products has now commenced, with the distinctive metallic blue and mint green shades bringing added colour to the more traditional design of laboratory equipment.
A key factor in Fitstogether's success in winning the Euroclone project was the ability of its single source solution to meet complex and demanding "design to manufacture" timescales.
Alan Robinson of Euroclone said: "We chose Fitstogether because they demonstrated that they could deliver what we wanted within the timescales we expected.
They were also able to deliver small volumes of the parts for us very cost effectively - on a come when called basis.
The lab pistol and pipette are new products and we wanted to test them in the market before commencing high-volume production.
"Fitstogether has delivered the project on-time and to the quality and standards we demand - the metallic blue colour has gone down very well with our customers".
