Doughnut load cells save space over pancakes

A Futek Advanced Sensor Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 20, 2007

Doughnut or through-hole load cells offer a far higher accuracy than load washers but are more sensitive to torque or other extraneous load or moments.

Futek offers a variety of miniature doughnut or through-hole load cells.

One of the more popular standard models is the LTH300.

It has low profile robust construction available in 17-4 stainless steel with an ID range from 3.40 to 9.80mm and available in capacities from 23 to 454kg.

It comes standard with a 3m-long 29 AWG four-conductor shield Teflon cable with a very effective mechanical strain relief.

The LTH300 has high stiffness due to its low deflection of 0.05mm nominal and operating temperature of -50 to +90C.

This product, as well as other LTH models, is typically used to monitor loads in the press or punching, inserting operation.

It can be substituted with load washers and pancake load cells if needed.

However, doughnut/through-hole load cells offer a far higher accuracy than load washers but are more sensitive to torque or other extraneous load or moments.

Although pancake load cells are slightly more accurate, they are much bigger in size.

With Futek's constant goal of improvement and design innovations, similar models are constantly being offered with the thinner height while maintaining the large diameters.

Futek offers a complete turnkey system with related instruments, to interface with PLC or computer or other controllers and can provide full DAQ system with software in support of automation.
