Fluent has upgraded its Remote Simulation Facility with an additional 96GFLOPS of capacity with the addition of a Linux Networx Evolocity II cluster system.

The Fluent Remote Simulation Facility lets users exploit supercomputer capacity with unlimited Fluent processes using "pay as you go" methods through a highly secure Internet portal.

This provides and excellent solution for Fluent users with a periodic need for high-performance data processing.

The Fluent RSF is specifically designed to handle highly parallel simulations that are often characterised by large volumes of sensitive customer data, over the Internet.

It is optimised for large-scale simulations and/or concurrent execution of many simulations, such as those found in sensitivity analysis or optimisation.

The facility uses state-of-the-art security and systems infrastructure technology from providers including Cisco, Sun, and Linux Networx.

This service is ideal for Fluent CFD users who require occasional "surge" capacity for time-critical simulations, or periodic simulations of large models.

"This new capacity from Linux Networx is pretty amazing", said Thomas Scheidegger, a Fluent Consultant, "I was able to solve a 13.5 million cell, two-equation turbulence model using ideal gas at 27 seconds per iteration".

Eric Pitcher, Linux Networx Vice President, Product Marketing, Government, Industrial and Life Sciences said, "After working with Fluent to develop an integrated CFD cluster system, we are now able to pre-integrate Fluent onto the Evolocity II cluster system in our facility before shipment to customers.

Linux Networx has installed cluster systems in production environments that scale to over 2000 processors.

This ability to scale to large systems will be ideal for the growing RSF facility".

Paul Bemis, Vice President of eBusiness at Fluent, said, "The demand for additional surge capacity has been steadily increasing since we began this initiative one year ago.

We are now in position to provide complete hosted services for our Fluent customers worldwide at a very competitive price point".

The Fluent RSF is available to both existing Fluent and new users on a worldwide basis.

Users are charged for solve time only.

Other functions such as file transfer, report generation, and interactive "online" time are not metered.

Subscriptions range from a minimum of 180 CPU-hours to complete dedicated systems.

Prices are quoted on a per-CPU-hour basis and can be as low as $5 per CPU-hour in volume.
