Fluent has been selected as the CFD provider for the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) Programme.

As a "PACE contributor", Fluent will provide its Fluent and Gambit software suites to 23 colleges and universities in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The PACE Partnership, which links General Motors, EDS, Sun Microsystems and UGS PLM Solutions, seeks to integrate parametrics-based applications into the engineering, manufacturing, and design curricula of some of the most prestigious educational institutions around the globe.

As these PACE institutions build expertise in the use of parametrics-based applications, students and faculty work directly with technical experts from GM, EDS, Sun Microsystems and UGS PLM Solutions to solve industrial challenges.

Students involved with PACE become familiar with Fluent's suite of CFD tools and apply that knowledge not only in the university setting, but in future professional situations.

Fluent's software is used for simulation, visualisation, and analysis of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions.

It is a vital part of the computer-aided engineering (CAE) process for companies around the world and is widely deployed in manufacturing and process industries.

"It is in our best interest to contribute to the PACE Programme, so that these academic institutions may further expand research and teaching activities", said Shane Moeykens, Fluent's University and FlowLab Manager.

"Using Fluent and Gambit as part of the educational process, while on campus, offers benefit.

Students have the opportunity to be involved with 'real world' CAE activities, so that they quickly become productive upon entering the workforce".

Jim Welton, director, GM Global Performance Integration, commented: "The opportunity for PACE institutions to have access to Fluent's software is a great benefit for their students.

In addition to making them conversant with a tool used for a broad range of our CFD and thermal applications, they can use it to collaborate on automotive projects.

I suspect they'll also push the frontiers of applications as only a student can do".
