The latest version of Fluent's flagship CFD software has over 300 new capabilities that aim to broaden the range of possible CFD applications in all industries.

The latest version of Fluent's flagship CFD software has over 300 new capabilities that aim to broaden the range of possible CFD applications in all industries.

Key enhancements to the core Fluent solver have led to dramatic speed-ups and improved accuracy without compromising robustness and ease of use.

Fluent 6.2 has been beta-tested extensively by users and subjected to the most comprehensive real-world industrial test matrix available in the CFD industry today.

Beta users have reported impressive performance improvements in Fluent 6.2 compared with its already notable predecessor, Fluent 6.1.

Fluent 6.2 contains new capabilities in several areas.

All multiphase models can be used in conjunction with species transport and chemical reactions.

Free surface and discrete phase modelling are both significantly more efficient and a new solar radiation model opens up whole new application areas.

Fluent's unique dynamic mesh capability for simulating flows around moving bodies has been enhanced including the addition of a new six-degrees-of-freedom solver.

Fluent 6.2 also offers the most comprehensive range of turbulence and acoustics models in any CFD code.

Fluent's already considerable capacity for handling chemically reacting flows has been expanded with a new, efficient laminar stiff chemistry solver, special models for engine ignition, and a convenient facility to create custom, reusable, material property databases.

Nicole Diana, the Fluent Product Manager, echoed the feedback she has been receiving from beta testers all over the world: "Fluent 6.2 will save our users design time and money through increased efficiency in numerous applications across the board", she said.

"We are seeing dramatic speed ups in unsteady simulations - anywhere from 2 to 10 times".

"The software has new and improved capabilities in a wide range of areas".

"Parallel performance benchmarks are also very impressive".

"I believe that Fluent 6.2 will be embraced as a significant advance in the CFD community and it is demonstrably the highest performance commercial CFD software available in the world today".

As beta tester Wayne Strasser of the Eastman Chemical Company in the USA said: "Fluent is a world-class code, and the 6.2 release offers many benefits".

"I have tested models for multiphase flow, heat transfer, and steady turbulence".

"I have found improvements in convergence rate, and have found the software very user-friendly".

"I use Fluent day in and day out to save my company money".
