Fluent distributes Edem in Japan

A Fluent product story

Fluent Asia Pacific to distribute Edem discrete element modelling software in Japan.

Fluent Asia Pacific has started distributing Edem discrete element modelling software developed by Dem Solutions for particle flow simulation.

Fluent Asia Pacific will be the exclusive distributor of Edem in Japan, providing sales, technical support and training.

Edem helps users simulate and analyse the behaviour of particulate matter during processing, manufacturing and handling operations.

It is based on discrete element method (DEM) technology that simulates and analyses the behaviour of individual particles.

Edem is used in process industries including chemical, materials, pharmaceutical and minerals as well as oil and gas production, mining, agriculture and geotechnical engineering.

David Street, Director of Marketing for Fluent Asia Pacific, said: "We are very excited about distributing Edem in Japan".

"The product has many unique particle modelling capabilities".

Edem can be used as a standalone DEM modelling package or coupled with the Fluent v6 CFD product when interactions between particles and fluid flow are important.

The graphical user interface contains a suite of DEM modelling tools.

Particle shapes and equipment geometry can be imported from either generic CAD (IGes, Step or Acis) or native CAD formats such as Pro/Engineer, Catia, Ideas and Autocad.

Geometry can be moved using combined rotation and translation or user-defined kinematics.

A mixture of particle shapes (spherical and non-spherical) can be simulated in the same model, each with its own size distribution.

A particle factory tool enables batch or continuous generation of particles within complex geometries.

The DEM solver provides real-time model visualisation.

An applications interface is provided where users can define particle contact laws, interactions with surrounding media, data exchange and coupling with third party software.

Data analysis and mining tools include graphing, data export and animation of particle flows based on any model parameter using particles, vectors or streamlines.
