CFD collection combines art and technology

A Fluent product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 15, 2006

A 2006 collection of computational fluid dynamics images has been assembled to reflect some iconic simulations carried out using the CFD code over the years.

Flows of gases and liquids have always had an aesthetic appeal to the scientific community and to the general public at large; be it a Leonardo da Vinci water sketch, a turbulent Van Gogh sky in southern France, or a Hiroshige Ando lithograph of a large wave about to engulf an open boat.

The arrival of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) over the past 20 years has amplified this perception of fluid flow phenomena in the mind of the viewer with a range of very colourful visual representations of flows in everyday objects and situations.

Over the years, Fluent has had numerous compliments paid to it regarding some of the more impactful CFD images and pictures produced by its engineers and customers.

To celebrate this, a 2006 collection of CFD images has been assembled to reflect some iconic simulations carried out using the Fluent CFD code over the years.

They include swirling flows in a glass of Guinness beer, David Beckham soccer ball free kick aerodynamics, Olympic swimsuits and bob skeleton sliders, the Wright Brothers' first aircraft, an Ariane 5 rocket and airflow around the Brandenburg Gate.

These wallpapers have been created and are available as free downloads for members of the CFD community to use on PCs and laptops.
