Screening tool warns of runaway reactions

A Fauske and Associates product story

ARSST is a cost effective calorimeter that quickly, easily and safely identifies potential chemical hazards during a runaway chemical reaction.

Fauske and Associates (FAI) has released a new improved version of its Advanced Reactive System Screening Tool (ARSST) for the process industry.

ARSST is a cost effective calorimeter that quickly, easily and safely identifies potential chemical hazards during a runaway chemical reaction.

The measured temperature and pressure rate data can be directly applied to full-scale industrial processes.

The new ARSST calorimeter control software keeps the best of the original ARSST but adds a number of significant improvements.

A test summary file is automatically generated and can be updated throughout the test, providing an electronic record of test setup parameters, operator actions and final conditions.

Seven preset test modes make test setup a snap, and test parameters can be modified during a run.

Data acquisition frequency exceeds 500 points per second for improved resolution of rapid temperature or pressure events.

Temperature measurement range has been expanded and now runs from -50 to +700C.

The software is available with closed-cell and high phi-factor testing options and is compatible with PCI architecture.

The standard hardware configuration consists of a personal computer with ARSST software and A/D card, an electronics control cabinet and a safety containment vessel with test cell.

Optional equipment includes a flow regime detector, dual thermocouples, high pressure vessel, and closed cell testing kit.

The complete ARSST system costing circa US $25,000 is immediately available with delivery guaranteed within 2-4 weeks on receipt of an order.

Current users of the older RSST system can upgrade to the newer ARSST system by simply purchasing new control software, a control box and A/D card.
