Company boosts polycarbonate production

A Sabic Innovative Plastics product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 30, 2007

Sabic Innovative Plastics is creating production lines in three locations to meet growing demand for Lexan structural glazing, roofing and signage.

Sabic Innovative Plastics is expanding production of its Lexan polycarbonate multi-wall and solid sheet products for the construction and industrial markets across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The company will add production lines in three locations - Vienna, Milan and Bergen op Zoom - to meet growing demand for Lexan structural glazing, roofing, signage and other applications in Eastern Europe, Russia and other locations.

The new production lines are slated for completion by the third quarter of 2008.

Products will include Lexan Thermoclick, Thermoroof and Thermopanel specialty sheet systems, as well as Lexan Thermoclear multi-wall and Lexan solid sheet products.

"To meet growing demand for Lexan sheet products across the European continent, we are expanding our production capacity", said Jack Govers, General Manager Specialty Film and Sheet, EMEA at Sabic Innovative Plastics.

Sabic Innovative Plastics will add a production line in Vienna to manufacture up to 2100mm wide Lexan Thermoclear sheet, which is used for lightweight, impact-resistant, transparent glazing of commercial greenhouses, verandas, industrial buildings and stadiums.

The additional line in Milan will produce Lexan Thermoclick sheet systems for translucent building facades; Lexan Thermoroof sheet for industrial rooflights; and Lexan Thermopanel sheet, which is used to provide natural light in insulated metal roofing applications.

The Bergen op Zoom line will produce Lexan solid sheet, a product used in a wide range of building and construction and industrial applications, including signage, displays and security glazing.

Lexan sheet materials can help to deliver measurable return on investment through ease of installation; lower insurance costs due to better fire resistance and impact resistance to prevent breakage and weather damage; and less need for replacement due to UV degradation, weathering and breakage.
